The City of Nanaimo is seeking a Manager of Transportation. The Manager of Transportation manages the Transportation Engineering Group, which is responsible for planning, establishing, controlling and monitoring the policies and standards necessary to provide a safe and efficient transportation network within the City. The incumbent plans, directs and implements programs to facilitate the effective use of resources to ensure the attainment of short and long-term transportation goals. Work is performed under the general direction of the Senior Manager of Engineering. The exercising of considerable independent judgment and action is expected, with only matters of major impact or policy discussed with the Senior Manager.

Applicants must have graduated from a recognized university with a B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering, specializing in Traffic/Transportation Engineering, or have an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in transportation planning as a Professional Engineer, including substantial experience managing transportation professionals in a local government environment, is required. Applicants must also have experience in Civil Engineering computer application software, such as Highway Capacity Manual Software (HCMS); Transportation Modeling Software (EMME 2; T-Model); Traffic Signal Modeling Software (Synchro); Design application software (AutoCAD).

Applicants must have a membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (P. Eng.), be eligible for Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (P.T.O.E.) Certification and be a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required as well as possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
