Profile
Our client is major, western Canadian retailer based in the Greater Vancouver area. They are currently recruiting for an experienced retail buyer who will be accountable for the buying function in support of the merchandising, marketing & operational standards, and operations within the assigned division. Our client offers competitive salary plus bonus, benefits and relocation from across Canada.
Responsibilities
Encompasses all aspects of the buying cycle, i.e. product selection, inventory management, advertising, training and any other function required to increase sales, revenues, and results for the company
Negotiate deals and promotions from both manufacturers and vendors
Responsible for the enhancement of profit opportunities by use of rebates, cash discounts, promotional allowances and or other forms of additional consideration for the employer within the plans detailed by management
Help develop, create and co-ordinate advertising as required by the Merchandise Manager
Awareness of all relevant product trends and have the ability to brief management as to the significance of such trends and their possible impact on the employer; such trend impact analysis must include both technical and competitive issues
Identify any product listing opportunities or possible improvements to the current product listing; within the guidelines, as detailed from time to time by the Merchandise Manager, the Buyer may create new product listings
Must have a thorough understanding of all competitors in your area of business
Test sample products, and to report the results of such tests
Responsible for the management of minimal defective returns
Ensure that adequate stock levels exist to support all store inventory requirements and promotional stock requirements; this is considered to be a critical key requirement of the position
Qualifications
Have good retail experience with a strong buying and merchandising background
Knowledge of financial, strategic, and tactical planning as well as budgeting
A post-secondary education in Marketing, product procurement or a University Business Degree would be an asset
Foremost expert in every category that you manage; must be able to fully utilize every research opportunity to ensure that you are current and informed at all times
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrate good interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, staff & management
Highly organized and able to multitask effectively and work under changing priorities
Good communication skills within a team environment
Initiative to isolate and solve problems
A positive and proactive attitude
