Funded by the Government of Canada, CICS is recruiting summer students to fill the following positions with the major duties listed. Please note that CICS will offer the positions only when the funding is approved.
1) COMMUNITY GARDEN ANIMATOR
• To assist in planning and implementation of Community Garden Programs, community events and outreach activities;
• To coordinate volunteers and co/facilitate groups in maintaining garden areas; to provide support to youth, women and seniors in their community engagement activities, and to assist in program development designed to improve local food security / resiliency and environmental education;
• To prepare and develop garden workshops materials, make effective weekly program plans, and to organize the appropriate materials for program facilitation.
*This position supports the local priorities in educating the new immigrants residing in local communities about healthy living and community engagement. Preferred field of studies: Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Youth Counselling, Community Services, and Education. Language requirement: English (Other languages an asset)
2) FOOD SECURITY PROGRAM ASSISTANT
• To assist in planning and implementation of “Field to Table” programs (community cooking programs, healthy cooking workshops, and life skills training for youth), community events and outreach activities;
• To ensure rotation of garden harvests to be used in the community kitchen, to prioritize tasks for efficient and sufficient use of program materials; and to plan and facilitate weekly programs;
• To coordinate volunteers in preparing for events, workshops, and daily maintenance of the kitchen and program areas; to provide support to youth, women and seniors in their community engagement activities;

Qualifications:
• Study in the field as listed;
• Possess solid computer skills;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills;
• Willing to participate in team work; and
• Knowledge and use of a second language is an asset.
Salary: $11 per hour.
Hours: Vary from 30 to 35 hours per week; for a period of 8 to 12 weeks; may be required to work on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
Applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be between15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
