The City of Quesnel’s Leisure Services Department is seeking a motivated and qualified individual to fill the role of regular part-time Lifeguard II at the Quesnel & District Arts & Recreation Centre. Quesnel is a bustling small city with an area population of 23,000 people. Quesnel’s regional airport, rail connectivity, and location directly on British Columbia’s main north-south corridor, make larger markets accessible within a one day drive or one hour flight. With business-friendly government at the local, provincial and federal level, Quesnel is an ideal location to work, live and play.

The Lifeguard II is responsible for lifeguarding and providing instruction in a variety of aquatic, fitness and first aid programs and activities.

To be successful, candidates will possess excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, train, and assist subordinate staff, effectively deal with problems that may arise in the absence of the Aquatic Program Coordinator and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population and utilize tact and diplomacy when dealing with members of the public. This position will require that the candidate have considerable knowledge of first aid, fitness, lifesaving, and life-guarding skills, techniques and practices and reasonable knowledge of teaching methods. Ability to demonstrate aquatic, fitness, lifesaving, and first aid skills and instruct and evaluate these skills at the standards set by the relevant authority.
