Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) Officer – Regina – Guard-All Building Solutions Canada

Guard-All Building Solutions (Canada) is seeking a site Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Officer for a major athletic stadium project in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. This project is expected to begin in March, 2016, with a target completion date of mid to late summer, 2016.

Essential Functions
Review and gain a working knowledge of our Company safety program and the General Contractor’s site specific safety program.
Review safety documentation for compliance.
Record, file and update crew training and certifications.
Review life safety systems for compliance. Ensure appropriate systems are established and utilized to encourage and facilitate injury and illness prevention.
Review, file, and report all incidents and their documentation.
Facilitate weekly safety, health, and environmental site audits with FabrITec key personnel. Individually conduct semi-continuous site audits (multiple times per day) and initiate appropriate corrective actions. Develop inspection practices, schedules and recordkeeping procedures as appropriate.
Attend and/or lead daily tool box talk. Address crew on relative HSE matters.
Observe site conditions and make suggestions on continual improvement.
Ensure maintenance of material safety data sheets so they are accessible to all employees during business operations.
Ensure employees and sub-contractors wear appropriate PPE and comply with safety requirements. Provide coaching as needed and recommend corrective action when appropriate.

Experience Requirements
National Construction Safety Officer Certification is required.
Minimum 2 years’ experience as a safety officer in Commercial or Industrial construction.
Basic computer skills and proficiency with Excel, Word, Adobe, and Outlook.
Superior interpersonal abilities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, flexible.
Strong communication and training skills including the able to speak in front of large groups
Good listening skills.
Good note taking and documentation skills

Physical Requirements
Interact verbally with diverse personalities.
Walk; climb stairs and ladders; work under, in and above manufactured buildings and other structures; and otherwise move through congested, uneven and/or dusty indoor and outdoor construction areas.
Perform light lifting; demonstrate use of PPE and safety procedures; and work in adverse temperature and weather conditions.
Spend up to 80% of time in construction areas.
This is a project specific, temporary, full time position with an expected duration of approximately four (4) months.
