Utility Operator I – Town of Beaverlodge – Beaverlodge, AB

The Town of Beaverlodge is accepting applications for one (1) permanent, full-time Utility I position accountable to the Public Works & Facilities Manager. Beaverlodge is a progressive urban centre in northwest Alberta, and is a scenic, growing town that is home to approximately 2,600 residents. The Town is an ideal place for a growing family and has a new indoor pool and fitness facility as well as numerous outdoor parks and facilities and an indoor arena. There are numerous community groups offering services for all age groups. The town is within a 40 kilometer drive to Grande Prairie which offers air and bus services and all the amenities of a large urban centre. The water plant is 30 years old and has approved funding of $5.5million for major renewal in 2016.

The core functions, about 70% of the work-week, of this employee will be to assist in the operation and maintenance of the Towns water and wastewater utilities including, the water treatment plant and wastewater lagoon. The Utility Operator is also responsible for performing a variety of construction, repair, installation and maintenance activities in support of water and wastewater systems, operating a variety of equipment and tools related to maintenance and repair, and performing related duties as assigned.  Other responsibilities will include the performance of maintenance and technical tasks related to the construction, maintenance and repair of water and wastewater systems, mains, services, and valves, performing sewer and water line installation, installing new taps for water service, operating a variety of tools and equipment such as back hoes, front end loaders, vacuum truck, etc.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalency
Valid Level I Water Treatment, Distribution and Waste Water
Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement, or ability to obtain
Willingness to undertake ongoing professional development certification requirements through Alberta Water Wastewater Operators Association  (AWWOA) or others, as required
Effective communication skills, ability to understand oral and written instructions
