The Regional District of Nanaimo has an employment opportunity for a Senior Planner in its Long Range Planning Section.  The Long Range Planning Section provides regional and community planning services to east central Vancouver Island, one of the most attractive and fastest-growing areas of British Columbia. The position will be of interest to individuals who are looking for an opportunity to be involved in policy and plan development related to creating a sustainable region.

Reporting to the Manager of Long Range Planning, the Senior Planner will be responsible for assisting with the development, review and implementation of the regional growth strategy and official community plans, and initiatives on housing, social issues, climate change and other projects related to sustainability.

Qualifications for this position include an Undergraduate Degree in planning or a related field plus ten years of professional planning experience, or a Master’s Degree in Planning with six years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  The successful applicant will possess strong interpersonal, report writing and conflict resolution skills; have experience as a project leader; be comfortable speaking at public events; and, be proficient at word processing and other basic computer applications.

This is a permanent full-time Union position (35 hours per week).  The (2013) rate of pay is $38.67 to $40.71 per hour.  The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the Collective Agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
