Research Coordinator – Georgia Strait Alliance – Vancouver, British Columbia

Georgia Strait Alliance (GSA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the marine environment and promoting sustainability of Georgia Strait, its adjoining waters and communities.

In 2013, GSA launched The Waterfront Initiative – a collaborative effort that brings together multi-jurisdictional stakeholders and citizens to address the social, economic and ecological threats to Vancouver’s shoreline and take action to ensure a healthy waterfront for all.

Georgia Strait Alliance is seeking a Research Coordinator to conduct an analysis of existing datasets and ongoing monitoring programs that can reliably reflect the current state of Vancouver’s waterfront. Based on findings, the final report will provide recommendations on indicator development that can eventually inform a State of the Waterfront Report.

The successful candidate will use their experience and knowledge of urban planning and ecosystem management to determine areas of outreach, compile and analyze data, and prepare the final report.

Selection Criteria:

Must have strong research skills and a demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
Prior work experience should include conducting research within an urban planning context, assembling and analyzing data and preparing reports
Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills are essential
Must be able to provide your own computer, cell phone and work space
Preference will be given to applicants with at least one year of graduate level study

This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable networking experience with a wide variety of sectors including various levels of government, First Nations, industry, academia, NGOs and the corporate sector.

The contract will be 35 hours each week for a 12-16 week period to be paid at a rate of $16 per hour. Anticipated start date is May 4, 2015.
