The Regional District of Nanaimo has a temporary employment opportunity for a Planner in its Current Planning Department.
Reporting to the Manager of Current Planning, the Planner will be responsible for answering public inquiries regarding various land use and development issues; evaluating and processing development applications including official community plan amendments, rezonings, development permits and development variance permits; undertaking Agricultural Land Reserve and subdivision application reviews; and assisting in the development of bylaws, policy and planning studies.
Qualifications for this position include an Undergraduate Degree in planning or a related field plus 6 years of professional planning experience, or a Masters Degree in Planning with three years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful applicant will possess strong interpersonal, report writing and conflict resolution skills; be comfortable speaking at public events; and be proficient at word processing and other basic computer applications.
This is a temporary full time Union position up to July 2016 with the possibility of ending early or of extension, based on the operational needs of the department. The rate of pay is $36.74 to $38.67 per hour. As a temporary employee you will also receive an additional 12.4% in lieu of benefits including vacation and statutory holidays.
