The Fraser Valley Regional District, headquartered in Chilliwack, B.C., is comprised of six member municipalities and eight Electoral Areas, each containing numerous unique communities, cultures and landscapes.  The FVRD covers roughly 13,900 square kilometers, and delivers over 100 separate services to over 275,000 residents in the beautiful Fraser Valley.

We are inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the full-time position of Planner I in the Planning Department of the Electoral Area Services Division.  Under the direction of the Manager of Electoral Area Planning/Deputy Planner the Planner I is a member of the Electoral Area Services team and is generally responsible for responding to Electoral Area planning enquiries; processing and administering development development applications and permits with internal and external stakeholders which includes processing, administering, providing reliable technical analysis, assisting with the drafting of bylaws, permits, agreements, and other documents.   In addition, the Planner I will assist with OCP, long range planning and policy development.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

A degree in planning, geography or related discipline with courses in survey techniques, GIS, map interpretation, map compilation, graphics and statistical analysis preferred;
Two years of similar and demonstrated local government experience or equivalent preferred;
Working knowledge of standard planning, building, and engineering nomenclature, practices and methods;
Excellent computer skills, with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office including Power Point, and the ability to acquire a sound knowledge of GIS and electronic filing software;
Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural and site plans and understand specifications;
Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and ability to converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, elected officials, staff,  the general public, developers, consultants, and First Nations, for the purpose of providing advice, making recommendations and delivering effective presentations;
Ability to be creative, innovative, and solution-oriented;
Have strong facilitation skills and be able to achieve positive outcomes;
Must be in possession of a valid Driver’s Licence for the type of Fraser Valley Regional District vehicle being driven.

The wage rate for this full-time Union position is $31.28 to $36.80 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package and pension plan.  For more information about the FVRD, please visit our website at www.fvrd.ca.
