The City of Maple Ridge has an exciting opportunity for a Professional Planner in the Community Planning Section of the Planning Department.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Planning the Community Planner will undertake a number of policy projects identified in the Planning Department’s 2015 Business Plan.

The successful candidate will have considerable long-range planning experience, including: the preparation of policy-based background studies and reports; community consultation and analysis and summary of input received; the development of policy options and recommendations; and presentations to Council, Committee’s and community groups.

You will participate in the completion of an area planning process, including the consultation program, undertake land use policy research and prepare and present policy-related reports to Council for their consideration.

The successful candidate will possess a good understanding of sustainable and environmental stewardship, along with comprehensive knowledge of municipal and provincial acts related to municipal planning, and a thorough understanding of development approvals.  The work requires strong analytical and problem solving skills, excellent customer service and communication skills (written and oral) and a demonstrated ability to utilize initiative and creativity in bringing out effective responses to community planning matters.  The successful candidate must be capable of working independently with limited supervision in a position requiring a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, diplomacy and confidentiality.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Planning with some professional experience in urban or regional planning;
Membership or eligibility for membership in PIBC and/or the Canadian Institute of Planners
