Regional Power Inc. (“Regional Power”) is a leading Canadian energy developer, operator and manager of hydroelectric projects in Canada. As a subsidiary of Manulife Financial, Regional Power has developed a significant portfolio of renewable energy projects and has won international recognition through being awarded the UNESCO Blue Planet Prize, the 2013 BC Clean Energy Award for Environmental Stewardship and Community Improvement, and in 2014 the community for which it developed its Long Lake project was awarded the Community of the Year Award for their outstanding support of the project.
Regional Power manages and operates nine hydroelectric generating facilities with a combined capacity of 88MW. Regional Power will finish two additional projects with a combined capacity of 19 MW in early 2016 that are currently being constructed on the White River in northwestern Ontario. There are five operating assets in British Columbia and four in Ontario all located throughout three time zones and whose plant discharges reach the Atlantic, Pacific and Artic Oceans. Regional Power has commissioned three hydro projects in the last four years and has extensive operating experience since 1985.

The Role
As a key member of Regional Power, you will report directly to the Manager of Operations and work closely with the Operations Supervisor – Eastern Region. You will supervise the Western Region Projects and work in a team environment to supervise the site operators and manage the planned and unplanned maintenance cycles, inspection and upgrade works, and the bringing of equipment back into normal operation. Being in charge of the approved operational budget and procurement, you will strive to achieve a good balance between productivity, risk, and cost at all times to ensure the highest levels of safety and reliable energy supply to the respective utilities. You will also have responsibility for environmental compliance, management of the permits and other regulatory requirements relating to the facilities. In addition, you will be the key person to drive environmental, health, safety and operational performance culture across the facilities.
The Responsibilities
Supervision of site operators Supervision of planned & unplanned maintenance and upgrade projects
Provide troubleshooting support for the facilities and operators
Maintain and improve Environmental Compliance Systems and reporting to regulatory agencies
Maintain Permits and other regulatory documentation for the projects
Maintain inventory and maintenance lists and utilize document control systems
Manage and prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly operations reporting and present them to Manager of Operations
Assist in management of the annual Business Plan including capital works and the operations and maintenance budget
Manage safety training for the operators
Liaison with accounting department for operations and budget reports;
Be responsible for approval for works done on site, including invoice approval and expense allocation
Visit sites & ensure plants are safe, well maintained, and are in good operating order
Create within operating staff a culture of continuous improvement
Utilize maintenance management system to document activities and condition
Participation in commissioning of new projects
Skills & Experience
College or University Degree in electrical/civil/mechanical field, or significant and relevant experience
At least 3-5 years of experience supervising similar facilities and/or activities, ideally with experience in hydroelectric or other power facilities
Experience managing the maintenance and upgrade projects over $50,000.00
Ability to multitask and manage concurrent activities
Have the ability to manage and administer contract documentation, permitting documents, and land related documents
Posses a strong command of the English language, both written and oral (French would be a definite asset)
Proficient in electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting
Have a strong working knowledge of MS Office suite and MS Project
Have good leadership skills and be able to provide professional judgement while performing the role
Willing and able to travel
