Manager, Recreation Programming – City of Halifax – Halifax, NS

Overview
Reporting to the Director, Parks and Recreation and managing 80 full time staff, 1300 part time staff, 6,000 recreation programs and hundreds of services and projects, the Manager, Recreation Programming will lead and direct the delivery of innovative and high quality recreation programs and ervices to a large regional municipality in a broad geographic area. Programs and services will include aquatics, outdoor recreation, youth at risk, inclusion/special needs, sport and physical activity, wellness, and many other direct and indirect programs and services in multiple sites and decentralized locations and settings.

The Manager, Recreation Programming will foster and develop relationships with residents, partners, internal and external business units, community boards and groups, sports organizations and Regional Council and will be accountable for more than $5 Million in annual revenue and $13 Million in expenditures.

The Manager, Recreation Programming will oversee recreation programming delivery in 68 recreation facilities and 31 outdoor pools and beaches, operating under a variety of service agreements and working closely with community groups, staff and residents to ensure that progressive, high quality recreation services are provided especially to those in greatest need and in communities of modest means.

Qualifications/Preferred Background
We are seeking candidates with several years experience in recreation management with at least five (5) years in a senior leadership role. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in  recreation and leisure management and the ability to deliver inspirational and high energy team leadership, motivation and budget management to a large, diverse municipality.

Candidates must demonstrate a track record of high performance in innovative recreation programming and services delivery in a large municipality or private sector/not for profit organization. Candidates must also be experienced in representing recreation programming at public meetings and making public presentations and will enjoy meeting with Regional Councillors and representing the Halifax Regional Municipality at the local, provincial, national and international level.
