Tree Canada is a not-for-profit charitable organization established to encourage Canadians to plant and care for trees in urban and rural environments. To date, nearly 80 million trees have been planted, over 550 schoolyards have been greened, and Tree Canada has helped organize eleven national urban forest conferences.Tree Canada helps coordinate approximately 300 events on an annual basis.
JOB SUMMARY
The Event Coordinator will support the Director of Communications and Program Development and the Communications Officer by assisting with the event coordination efforts for Tree Canada, provide research and analysis, and provide assistance with media relations website maintenance.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Coordinate, plan and develop Tree Canada program events as per direction of the Director of Communications and Program Development. (75%)
Assist with media relations activities such as research, preparation and editing of speaking notes and other communications. (5%)
Assist with coordinating press conference and other media events in collaboration with other members of the team. Also assisting with the editing of Tree Canada’s print and electronic promotional and educational material, presentations, Annual Report, official correspondence, etc. (5%)
Participates in Tree Canada’s planning and promotional activities. (5%)
Performing other related duties as required. (5%)
Assist with media tasks such as website calendar updates, “bragbook” updates, tweet events, e-newsletter content. (5%)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary education in a related field such as events coordination, communications, journalism, public relations, business development, or a combination of related education and experience.

Ability to work both independently and with a team in a fast paced environment.

Bilingualism; proficiency in English and French required. Third language an asset.
Compensation
$16/hour plus 4% vacation pay.
Term
This position is a contract term employment, for a total of 28 weeks starting March 1, 2015 to June 30, 2015 and again August 15, 2015 to October 31, 2015.
