Gordon Food Service is looking for a Director of Human Resources – A driven and determined individual responsible for managing and overseeing the HR functions in the Vancouver Division who will lead a positive and productive work environment.
Reporting to and working closely with the President, the Director of Human Resources will provide and coordinate all Human Resource services. This position will coordinate best practices in employee relations, compensation, training and development, benefits, recruitment, succession planning and leadership development along with building other effective tools needed by the company. The Director of Human Resources will manage and oversee the branch to ensure a positive, culturally aligned, productive work environment exists. This role also has a seat at the Senior Leadership Team table, both divisionally and nationally, helping develop and implement key human resource strategies. The incumbent should provide for the company’s needs globally, but be focused locally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure that the GFS culture and climate are addressed in the strategic plan and that strategy decisions include how changes will impact the GFS Culture and Cornerstone Values.
Develop programs and communications to implement desired change initiatives that link to the culture and business strategy.
Develop and maintain key relationships at all levels of the company to understand and assess the cultural health and alignment with Gordon Food Service values.
Develop, recommend, communicate and evaluate HR policies, plans and initiatives that meet operational and employee needs.
In partnership with Gordon Food Service’s National HR Council, develop and implement initiatives that support the business and enhance engagement.
Provide leadership in all aspects of HR including retention, organizational development, employee engagement, talent development and management, leadership development, succession planning, recruitment and selection, performance management, and compensation.
Liaise with the HR department in Grand Rapids and other GFS Canada business units through the HR Council regarding the implementation of company-wide HR goals, objectives and initiatives. Liaise with the payroll department in Grand Rapids regarding sign-ups, transfers and benefit issues.
Supervise recruitment strategies and all recruitment procedures.
Provide leadership in the Temporary Foreign Worker Program as it relates to securing LMIAs, monitoring the program and compliance.
Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and achieve business objectives and add value to the day-to-day operations.
Develop and monitor HR budget, goals and action plan.
Ensures company adheres to Provincial Employment Standards, WCB regulations, Human Rights and any other applicable federal or provincial employment legislation.
Build relationships with employment lawyers and consults with them for advice on difficult employment situations such as terminations, union drives, etc.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field. Master’s degree in Human Resources preferred.
3 years previous senior management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
5-7 years previous HR experience.
