The City of Parksville is seeking a qualified Occupational Health & Safety and Disability Claims Advisor to join our human resources team. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing corporate-wide Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) programs to ensure the safety of the workforce and compliance with relevant legislation; provide technical advice and support in the areas of occupational health & safety and disability claims management and contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, coordination and administration of the City’s OH&S Programs.

This position requires a high energy individual, able to take initiative and deliver excellent service to City staff and the public while building and maintaining strong, effective and positive working relationships. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding attitude and interpersonal skills, be highly organized and able to work in an environment with changing priorities and constant interruptions and respond to new challenges and a high volume of work while prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and handling multiple concurrent tasks.
The City of Parksville is looking for a highly motivated, proven team player with a demonstrated ability to “change gears” quickly. The ideal candidate will have successfully completed grade 12 and graduated with a diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, complimented by three to five years recent related experience in occupational health and safety and disability claims management in a unionized environment (preferably in a local government setting); or equivalent combination of training and experience. A Level II First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain) and possession of a valid BC Driver’s Licence and a good driving record is required. A CRSP designation or working towards the designation is considered an asset.
