Job Description
The Nature Immersion Program Educator will be responsible for helping our Wild Child Coordinator to deliver and administer Sierra Club’s Edmonton & Area Wild Child programs and events.
Duties and Tasks:
Contribute to the development & delivery of Nature Immersion programs
Contact local child care facilities, after school programs and camps to arrange visits
Present the program to interested groups, including new Canadians
Guide children, caregivers and adults on nature excursions
Develop activities that educate the participants on all aspects of their local environments including conservation & ecology
Engage membership via social and traditional media
Contribute to blogs and press releases
Develop relationships with community partners
Help to increase the reach of the program through promotion and networking
Qualifications:
Post-secondary training in one of the following areas: Early Childhood Education, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biology, Taxonomy, Environmental or Municipal Planning, Geography, Education, Public relations, Media / Journalism Studies
Applicants must have current First Aid Training and a police background check for interacting with vulnerable populations
Good written and oral skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Familiarity with web and social media
Ability to work with volunteers
Ability to carry heavy gear and equipment, when required.
Ability to get to and from the different work sites.
Experience with fundraising an asset
Love of nature a must!
Compensation
This position is an 5 week contract for 30 hours per week. Hourly wage is $15.
Eligibility
Successful applicants will need to meet the following criteria to be eligible for this position:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
