West Wind Project Manager – World Fisheries Trust – Victoria, BC

Job Description:
The West Wind Project Manager will be responsible for business development and maintenance of a closed saltwater aquarium system, as well as working alongside our Education and Outreach Coordinator to develop educational content presented in our Seaquaria Ocean Education program and at the Gorge Waterway Nature House. They will also assist with aquarium take downs and with the maintenance of the wet lab, overseeing animal care, feedings and water quality management.
The West Wind Project Manager will be responsible for assisting with the maintenance and repair of approximately 20 different aquaria used in the Seaquaria Ocean Education program, assist in the construction of new Seaquaria, participate in specimen collection and delivery and collaborate with a team to develop strong inter-project communication.
Tasks will also include assisting with public outreach, using hands-on activities such as a watershed model and a mobile Seaquarium filled with marine animals. Public outreach will take place at community events throughout the CRD, including Saanich and Esquimalt, throughout the period of employment. Maintaining safe work conditions and consistent and professional communication with volunteers, community members, and co-workers will be part of their duties.

Responsibilities:
Business development and project management of West Wind Sea Labs in conjunction with the Seaquaria Ocean Education program including:
Maintenance of a closed cold-saltwater aquarium system
Animal care of Salish Sea invertebrates and some local fish species
Admin duties related to inventory and customer communications
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers as required
Develop, deliver and evaluate integrated, hand-on environmental and science education programs in classrooms, online, and in the field. Programs will be geared to strengthen multidisciplinary learning;
Help build active partnerships with UVic, Camosun College, BC Museum and other NGOs;
Update and create program resources including: lesson plans, videos, activities, and worksheets;
Assist with organization and delivery of professional development workshops for teachers and volunteers;
Provide technical support for Seaquaria tank systems in schools;
Assist with specimen and water collection as required;

Participate in social media communications for World Fisheries Trust
Writing copy for monthly email newsletters.
Assist in organizing and delivering educational programs at the Gorge Waterway Nature House, for classes and the general public;
Assist in organizing and attend community events during the summer.

Qualifications Required:
Post-secondary degree in biology, environmental studies, education, communications, or related field;
An understanding of marine animal biology and ecological principles;
Experience with saltwater aquarium systems and animal husbandry;
Experience with carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems an asset;
Knowledge of inventory management
Knowledge of leading a team and project management
Business development experience an asset
Experience working with youth and groups;
Experience developing and delivering educational programs;
Experience organizing volunteers an asset;
Experience with website and online communications an asset;
Experience with graphic design and illustration an asset;
Valid driver’s license (use of own car may be required on occasion);
First Aid certification, and CPR-C (may be provided);
Willingness to submit a Criminal Record Check.

Eligibility Criteria (REQUIRED BY CANADA SUMMER JOBS)
Must be between age 15-30 years old at the start of employment;
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
