Our client, the Town of Gillam is currently looking for a qualified Water and Wastewater Manager.
Gillam is located in a wilderness paradise and has built itself a thriving tourist industry. Numerous lodges and fly-in outposts attract thousands of hunters, fishers, and outdoor enthusiasts each year.
Reporting to the CAO, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the following:
Duties
Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of the staff involved in water and wastewater treatment, operations, maintenance and repair work.
Evaluate operations and activities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operation and activities.
Prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for budget requests; assist in controlling expenditures.
Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
Check water and wastewater facilities and equipment for needed maintenance and repairs; inspect the work of staff while in progress; provide advice and assistance.
Maintain time, material, and equipment use records; requisition supplies and materials.
Prepare and submit all required reports, permits, applications and test samples as per provincial licencing and regulations.
Ensure the proper methods and precautions are utilized for the storing and handling of chemicals.
Develop, prepare and maintain job procedures.
Follow all Town policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
A suitable combination of education (CET), wastewater certifications, and experience will be considered.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Physically capable of performing all duties of the position and able to work outside in all weather conditions
Skilled in people management
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Able to work with minimum supervision
COMPENSATION
