Description:
Incumbent will be responsible for crisis intervention, short-term counselling and mediation, court preparation and attendance, and information and referral services as they pertain to victim and witness situations with the Fredericton Police Department.
Position Summary:
Provide first-order crisis intervention to victims and witnesses in crisis situations;
Provide short-term counselling or crisis therapy to victims, family members and witnesses;
Mediate for non-criminal disputes;
Prepare victims/witnesses for Court proceedings;
Provide information and referral services to clients;
Provide written reports on activities undertaken;
Generate monthly statistical reports;
Attend daily 0830 hrs briefings;
Attend professional development activities to maintain the continuing education requirements for professional certification with professional associations.
Position Specifications:
Education and Experience: A Masters degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or the equivalent is preferred. A minimum of five years related experience is required. A combination of relevant experience and education will also be considered. The incumbent will be a certified/licensed/ registered member of a related professional association.
Knowledge and Desired Skills:
Solid assessment and counseling skills;
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
Comfortable working with individuals in crisis;
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
Ability to work with a culturally diverse population;
Knowledgeable about community and government agencies;
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize;
Prior experience in an environment with strong enforcement component would be an asset;
Effective writing skills.
