Urban Harvest Community Leader – Black Creek Community Farm –

Train the Trainer Opportunity
Do you love cooking and food preservation? Do you have passion to learn and teach others about food waste reduction? The Urban Harvest Black Creek, an urban food initiative with the City of Toronto to reduce waste, is looking for 12 Community Leaders to be trained in facilitating canning & preservation workshops.

Requirements
Be at least 18 years old and a resident of Jane-Finch community and surrounding area
Commit to attend 3 training workshops
Willing to co-lead at least 2 canning and preservation workshops for the community
Those who successfully completed the training will facilitate engaging, hands-on, and culturally relevant community cooking and preservation workshops across 4 community kitchen sites.

Incentives:
Food Handler Certificate training will be provided
Receive up to $500 worth honorarium
Childminding provided
Refreshments and TTC tokens will be provided
Great opportunity to learn job-relevant skills

Assets:
Commitment to principles of food justice and waste reduction
Knowledge of, and experience working with people of Toronto’s diverse communities
Effective communication
Second language relevant to the community (Vietnamese, Italian, Spanish, etc) not required but valuable asset
Location: Main location is Black Creek Community Farm, 4929 Jane Street (Southeast corner of Jane St and Steeles Ave.), but trainings may take place in different sites in the neighborhood.
Hours: Total 15 hours of training + 2 co-led workshops (workshops run for 2-3 hours plus additional planning and prep time)
Training starts late July 2019. Specific time TBD.
