Unit Cell Engineer – Burnaby – IPN Brainpower Consulting Inc

The Unit Cell Engineer oversees design and release of plate and seal, interfacing with the mechanical engineering team and managing the budget.

Key Responsibilities
Design and release ownership of plate, seal, and MEA design and footprint
Development of interface design requirements with stack hardware
Interface with mechanical engineering, architecture and purchasing teams
Management of unit cell budget
Specification of components and materials including part and assembly drawings
BOM development
Carries out other related tasks and projects.

Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
7-10 years of experience in PEM unit cell design
Pro-active; ability to meet deadlines
Product development skills: DFMEA, RED, DFMA, tolerance analysis, GD&T
Understanding of design verification and validation and ability to incorporate learnings in future designs
Excellent knowledge of seal design
Excellent understanding of fluid flow principles
Ability to design for strength and load distribution
Ability to design within specific requirements to tight tolerances
Good 3D CAD design (Solidworks preferred)
FEA/CFD experience desired
VA/VE experience an asset
Application of structured problem solving methods (8D, 5-whys)
Ability to work and multi-task in a highly technical, fast-paced environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good MS Office skills
