Under the general direction of the Manager of Transit and Fleet, manages the operation of the transit system including on-time performance, customer service, and ensures safe operation based on the Motor Vehicle Act and other applicable regulations; provides management oversight including providing direction to contractors and responding to enquiries.
FORMAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a two (2) year business diploma; or a two (2) year technical diploma in transportation or related business field; or a combination of technical or business training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid Class 2 Driver’s License with air endorsement.
EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible relevant experience preferably in the transit or transportation industry.
Experience in the management of staff in a unionized environment.
Experience working in the public.
OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrated skills in team leadership and development and customer relations.
Ability to deal effectively with staff, Board members, groups and members of the public with tact and diplomacy.
Good skills in oral and written communication/presentation, especially the ability to prepare written reports and make oral presentations.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial statements and statistical data.
Knowledge of the legal framework and liability issues involved in the provision of transportation services.
Knowledge of management and labour relations principles and practices.
Project management and contract administration skills.
Knowledge of risk management principles and practice.
Experience in the design and delivery of training programs.
