Job Purpose:
The SBI Program Manager is a senior staff position reporting to the Executive Director, responsible for the overall success of the SBI program in driving impact in the Halton, Hamilton and Niagara Region communities served.
The SBI Program Manager will assist with the current redesign of the SBI program, and will be responsible for the overall successful development and delivery of sustainability programs to SBI Member organizations. The successful candidate will be an external spokesperson for the organization, responsible for managing a team of volunteers as well as working directly with Members. The SBI Program Manager will oversee the technical content of all programming such as educational workshops and forums, provision of individual technical support to members, reporting on member progress as well as reporting on SBI metrics overall.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Development
Assist with redesign of the SBI program in order to re-launch in fall/winter, 2020/2021, including a new water management framework for business.Ensure program deliverables are aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as municipal, provincial and national climate goals.
Assist member organizations in setting science-based GHG emissions and other environmental impact reduction targets.
Ensure the content of technical workshops and educational forums meets the needs and challenges faced by SBI Members.
Leadership / Spokesperson
Is a secondary external spokesperson for the organization.
In concert with the Executive Director, is expected to motivate, support, train and mentor SBI Volunteers.
Provides feedback and input to municipalities and media on sustainability and climate change issues.
Sustainability Training
Work with Members, directly and through dedicated volunteer SBI Member Support Specialists, to help achieve member sustainability objectives:
Train and coach participants using the SBI sustainability framework/reporting toolkits and carbon accounting software
Encourage and empower members to properly measure, set carbon/sustainability targets, track and report on their progress.
Sustainable Hamilton Burlington Annual Impact Report
Lead development of content for the Annual Impact Report
Liaise with expert judges, coordinate external review process and provision of feedback to SBI Members.
Oversee judging input into selection of award winners for Evening of Recognition Sustainability Awards.
Research Lead
Ensure that SHB is kept aware, up-to-date and current with all developments relating to all of the following:
Sustainability trends relating to business
Carbon emission regulations in Canada, Ontario, as well as in the Halton/Hamilton/Niagara regions
Global climate change and GHG policy
Relevant climate change and sustainability science
Relevant regional business news.
Responsible for the synthesis of this research and ongoing communications with the Executive Director to ensure SHB’s business plan remains current with changes to any of the research areas outlined above.
Stakeholder Engagement
Builds relationships and liaises with sustainability professionals within the SBI program region and in the broader sustainability community nationally.
Works directly with other community groups, including not-for-profits, associations and external agencies, to collaborate and share resources.
Volunteer Mentoring and Coordination
Work closely with Volunteer and Education Coordinator to recruit, train and mentor volunteers for the SBI program.
Reporting
Tracking and reporting on SBI activity progress as part of SHB reporting requirements to the Board of Directors, funding organizations, Green Economy Canada and the local community.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree in sustainability, business and sustainability, environmental management, engineering or other related area, a strong passion for sustainability and contributing to a healthy community. At least three years’ related work experience in a public- or client-facing role would be an asset.

Additional requirements of our funders stipulate that the successful candidate must be:
Under the age of (not yet turned) 31
Not currently in receipt of EI benefits
Canadian citizen, permanent resident or holding refugee status.
Remuneration:
This position is being funded by grants for one year, with the expectation of renewing the contract pending acquisition of financial resources and success of the candidate beyond the first year. The salary range for this position is $40,000 – $45,000 including mandatory employment benefits and vacation pay, based on a 37.5-hour work week.
Location of Work:
The majority of this work will be conducted from home or other location determined by the successful candidate. Occasional work and in-person meetings may be conducted if possible adhering to COVID safety precautions at the SHB Hamilton office or other location.
