The RDCK is now accepting applications for the new Sustainability Coordinator position based in Nelson, BC. Reporting to the General Manager of Development Services, the Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for the promotion and implementation of sustainability principles into all aspects of the RDCK’s activities. The Sustainability Coordinator works to achieve day-to-day delivery of the Sustainability Program through effective delivery of projects and initiatives. This is a permanent position working 17.5 hours per week.
Working closely with the General Manager, primary duties of this role include but are not limited to:
Provide input into development of corporate and departmental policy, procedures and strategies to ensure compatibility with sustainability objectives
Coordinate and participate in project teams with technical staff on sustainability projects
Support consultation processes to ensure stakeholder input is considered and reflected
Represent the RDCK on various sustainability projects and initiatives at a variety of with other government agencies, stakeholder groups and at community meetings.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Post secondary degree specialising in sustainability, environmental sciences or related
Three years related work experience
Previous grant writing, reporting and contract administration/management experience
(An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered for this position.)
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, concepts and issues related to Integrated Community Sustainability Planning (ICSP), GHG reduction and climate change
Ability to build cooperative partnerships with various government, community and public stakeholders
General knowledge of local government operations, authority and jurisdiction; environmental legislation, as well as provincial and federal government sustainability programs
Knowledge of ecological processes and best environmental practices for site development
Flexible working style to meet new and changing priorities while ensuring that work plans are managed and achieved
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and satisfactory Criminal Records Check
