Opportunity
The Sustainability Coordinator will provide expertise and leadership to all areas of the university for sustainability. This position will lead MacEwan University’s Office of Sustainability in the development and implementation of the strategic efforts to enhance sustainability at the university. This position is accountable for reviewing, overseeing the implementation of, reporting on, and making recommendations in relations to the strategic actions of MacEwan University’s Campus Sustainability Plan. The successful candidate will engage the university in sustainability activities relating to the Plan’s three pillars: i) Education for Sustainability, ii) Sustainable Operations, iii) and Planning, Administration, and Engagement. S/he will manage the Seed Sustainability Fund and the delivery of approved business-cases for the use and replenishment of the Fund.
Skills
Applicants should have an understanding of a wide range of sustainability topics such as water and energy conservation, environmental management, building design, waste reduction, transportation, and air quality. Specific skills include; strong oral and written communication skills along with proven experience writing reports and giving presentations. Experience in public relations, working with the media, managing projects and developing business cases and proposals are also considered an asset.
Qualifications
Applicants require a Bachelors degree in environmental science, engineering, public administration or another sustainability related discipline. An Advanced degree would be an asset. Applicants must have a minimum of five years’ experience in a sustainability related field. Experience in coordinating and implementing sustainability initiatives in an institutional setting is preferred. LEED accreditation and project management professional (PMP) certification would be an asset.
