Universal Rail Contractors Ltd. is currently recruiting for a Superintendent. The Superintendent will be reporting to the Operations Manager and will oversee and manage all phases of railway track construction and maintenance projects. The Superintendent must coordinate workers, materials and equipment, supervise sub-contractors, ensuring that specifications are being followed and that work is completed safely, on schedule and within budget, resulting in customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities include:
Ensure adequate resources are in place including scheduling labour, equipment and materials.
Review all contracts, project documentation and plans to ensure that the work in the field is built to the most recent specifications and scope of work.
Pre-plan work activities to develop best means and methods, including safety action plans.
Supervises total construction and maintenance effort in the field to ensure work is in accordance with design, budget and schedule.
Assigns work to various crews. Plan the day-to-day operations on the assigned project, and ensure that proper resources are in place for the timely completion of work i.e., labour, equipment, and material.
Investigates alternative work methods and materials which will either improve efficiency and/or quality of work performed.
Communicate with the Project Manager, General Contractor and customer to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and with sub-contractors to coordinate work, goals, etc.
Maintain a dedication to safety at all times by modeling, providing education and enforcing safe work practices, company policies and procedures. Ensure that proper safety equipment is available and used by all field personnel.
Perform a variety of related administrative tasks such as production reports, review and approve timesheets for accuracy, job coding, equipment logs, inspection reports, change orders, updating project files and participate in invoicing when necessary.
Perform other related administrative or project based duties as assigned.
Provide coaching and instruction to all crew members.
The successful applicant will possess a high school diploma plus post-secondary training in a related field with a valid class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with their CROR certification or those individuals working toward the completion of one, as well to those with a minimum of 5 years recent related construction/railroad experience. We are looking for individuals with strong leadership/supervisory skills who can organize, develop and communicate schedules and goals to crew members. Successful candidates must also be able to provide a high level of energy and exceptional level of customer service to internal and external customers.
