The Regional District of Nanaimo has employment opportunities for (5) Summer Leader 2 positions, (5) Summer Leader 1 positions, and (2) Inclusion Summer Leader positions. The incumbents will serve on a recreation team responsible for the provision of quality summer recreation experiences to participants of District 69 in the Parksville and Qualicum Beach area.
Reporting to the Summer Recreation Program Assistant, the Summer Leaders will assist in planning, leading, and evaluating the summer recreation program for children five to fourteen years of age. Summer Leaders are expected to provide the day-to-day operations and hands on leadership of the various activities involved in the program. Inclusion Summer Leaders will work directly with children three to fourteen years of age with disabilities with the goal of integration into day camp programs.
Responsibilities include: delivering quality recreation programs and activities; direct supervision, leadership and safety monitoring of participants; assisting in the promotion of the program; interacting with parents; ordering supplies, maintenance and care of equipment and supplies; providing written reports and scheduling activities; monitoring budgets, integrating children with disabilities, providing direction and other related duties as required.
The incumbents will have previous experience with summer recreation programs for children including proven supervision, leadership, and communication skills. Current first aid (Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid or Emergency Childcare First Aid) and CPR B or C are required. A Class 4 Drivers License is recommended. Preference will be given to those currently enrolled in a University/College or post secondary program (due to federal grant approval and funding). Please note employment in this position is subject to the receipt of a satisfactory criminal record check and driver’s abstract (current within 6 months).
These are non-union, casual appointments (variable hours up to 40 hours per week) between June 19, 2017 and September 1, 2017. Some evening and weekend work may be required. The hourly rates of pay are:
Summer Leader 2: Up to 11 weeks at $19.50 per hour with an additional 9% paid in lieu of benefits
Inclusion Summer Leader: Up to 10 weeks at $19.50 per hour with an additional 9% paid in lieu of benefits
Summer Leader 1: Up to 10 weeks at $17.55 per hour with an additional 9% paid in lieu of benefits
