Summer Communications and Engagement Intern – SPEC – Society Promoting Environmental Conservation – Vancouver, BC

Work tasks and responsibilities:
SPEC is seeking a communications and engagement intern to help support a number of summer engagement activities including supporting an Artist-in-Residence on a visual storytelling project featuring stories on environmentalism from marginalized communities.

Responsibilities:
Create content for summer communication initiatives on social media
Promote blog content on SPEC’s social media channels
Support improvement of SPEC’s website content
Work closely with the Artist-in-Residence to provide general administrative/operational support for the production of the storytelling project, including storyboarding the video and ensuring the main message is communicated
Coordinate interviews and audio recordings using Zoom/Google Hangouts and transcribe interviews.

Qualifications:
Passionate about environmental topics and gender, race, and social justice issues
A background in communications, marketing, and content creation from either education or work experience
A good understanding of visual storytelling through digital media (videography, photography, graphics)
Basic knowledge of video editing
Familiar with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube) and communicating to a wide online audience
Strong attention to detail and a willingness to help
Friendly and outgoing demeanor with the ability to connect with people through verbal and written communication

Additional Activities:
The intern might be asked to provide support to other SPEC summer engagement initiatives as needed.
Eligibility
This position is funded by a Canada Summer Jobs grant. To be eligible, the individual must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the employment
be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*;
be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Hours and Wage
Eight weeks, 30 hours/week at $15/hour, starting July 6, 2020.
