Specialist – Environment and Climate Change Education Research – Clean Foundation – Nova Scotia

Summary of the Position:
The Environment & Climate Change Education Researcher, in partnership with the Manager – Education Initiative and the Director – Education and Engagement, will support the development of a P-12 Framework through extensive research, synthesis, consultation, and identification of and collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
Create a research plan to guide the work over the term, to be approved by the Manager – Education Initiatives
Conduct research on existing environmental education and/or climate change education frameworks in other regions and countries
Complete a cross-curricular gap analysis that identifies opportunities for teaching climate change at each grade level within the province of Nova Scotia
Identify developmentally appropriate approaches to teaching EE/CCE at various grade levels within a Nova Scotian regional context
Working with the Manager and Director identify key stakeholders (teachers, curriculum experts, Indigenous knowledge holders, etc.) to be consulted in the development of the Framework
Develop a survey tool to engage teachers and gather input throughout the development process
Conduct ongoing research and networking in order to stay current on environmental and climate change education and curriculum
Perform other job duties in support of the organization.

Qualifications
A degree in Education with a deep understanding of Nova Scotian school curriculum
Experience (3+ years) in education and/or curriculum research, program design, or related work
Experience teaching environmental education with a focus on climate change considered an asset
Strong understanding of climate change and other environmental topics
Understanding of and/or willingness to learn about Mi’kmaw perspectives, including Two-Eyed seeing
Strong ability to synthesize and present researched information
Strong written communication skills, particularly with report writing
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and virtually (some office work may be available, subject to public health guidelines)
Comfort with Microsoft 365 Office Suite
