Meal Exchange is looking for a passionate, motivated and organized student to help coordinate our annual National Student Food Summit 2020. Held annually, the 2020 National Student Food Summit will bring together post-secondary students from across the country to build the future of campus food. Taking place for the first time in a virtual format, students will come together for networking, skill building, and movement building. This year’s Summit will have a focus on food justice, and features opportunities to plan collective actions to change campus food systems to be more sustainable, just, and accessible to all students.
Job Description
The Special Event Coordinator will assist our national team to coordinate the programming and logistics for the National Student Food Summit. The Coordinator will help Meal Exchange create a safe and welcoming space and ensure that the event runs smoothly.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the national team to create the event programming, including confirming keynote speakers, panel presentations, community building, and skills sessions
Work with the national team to arrange virtual conference logistics including web platforms, communications, registration, scheduling, and speakers
Support with outreach and communications to delegates including building partnerships with diverse student groups and organizations on campuses to increase the reach of the event
Support virtual logistics the day of events to ensure everything runs smoothly
Support follow-up with partners and participants
Support evaluation and drafting of a final report for the event
Desired Experience/Skills:
Priority given to students who identify as Black, Indigenous, or racialized, recognizing that these communities disproportionately experience inequity in the food system
Preference given to students who have been previously involved or are interested in getting involved in the Meal Exchange network in the year ahead
Comfortable with developing partnerships and relationships with a variety of students, speakers, community leaders, etc.
Ability to work both independently and collaborate with others
Interest in one or more of the following areas: food justice, cultural aspects of food, food systems, food security, student wellbeing and health, food workers and farmer rights, climate change and the environmental impact of food
Highly organized, motivated and detail-oriented
Excellent interpersonal, self-management, organizational, and communication skills
Experience in conference and/or event organizing an asset (not required)

HOURS:
37.5 hours/week for 4 weeks (August 10th-September 4th)
14-16 hours/week for 8 weeks (September 5th-October 30th), for a total of 130 hours over the 8 weeks
The successful candidate will be required to attend the National Student Food Summit as part of their work hours. The opening ceremony will be taking place Saturday, September 19th from 1-5pm EST, with subsequent sessions taking place in the two weeks following (dates/times TBD)
