The Planning & Strategic Initiatives Department with the City of Chilliwack, a growing and vibrant community of 85,000 located 100 kilometres east of Vancouver, is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Social Development
Coordinator.
In this exciting role you will be responsible for researching, planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating policies, plans and strategies to address social issues, including homelessness and affordable housing. Your work will involve complex tasks of a wide scope and magnitude working closely with staff from all City departments, as well as community groups, the non-profit sector, provincial agencies, and others to communicate and implement the Chilliwack Healthier Community Strategic Plan and the Chilliwack Homelessness Action Plan. You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with all community partners to coordinate and complete multiple projects simultaneously; prepare a variety of reports, presentations, and recommendations to Council, advisory committees and the public; respond to enquiries; and facilitate the City’s response to affordable housing development proposals.
You have a university degree or diploma in a related discipline and 3 to 5 years related experience, in affordable housing and related matters, preferably in a government setting. You have a deep understanding of the social issues surrounding homelessness in the City of Chilliwack and the non-profit sector, public and private sector related resources and stakeholders. You can communicate effectively with elected representatives, appointed officials, and the general public, and have demonstrated experience in building relationships, and developing and leading complex initiatives. You have skills in project management and conflict resolution, and demonstrate a high degree of versatility and adaptability to changing circumstances. Knowledge of municipal planning processes and policy is preferred.
