The SPCA NL is the largest and longest standing animal welfare organization in NL. Currently we are looking for a Shelter Manager for the St. John’s shelter which helps nearly 2,000 animals each year. The Shelter is operated by a staff of 8 and is developing a reliable group of volunteers who take part in many aspects of Shelter life.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the primary skill-set of the Shelter Manager will include:
experience in Management Operations
strong leadership qualities, with a positive, performance – driven attitude
excellent communication and administrative skills
ability to perform in a fast paced, multifaceted environment
ability to maintain and schedule an effective and efficient staff and volunteer work force
ability to interact positively and professionally with the general public, as well as other animal welfare and partner organizations
experience in the areas of budgeting, banking and payroll, computer operations and reporting
understanding of all aspects of Shelter operation, including health and safety, policies and procedures, scheduling and training, duties relating to animal care/welfare and other ad hoc duties as required for a successful shelter environment.
The ideal Manager will possess post-secondary education in biology/veterinary technology, with a minor in business administration and a minimum of five years experience in a management role, An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge of and experience in animal care and welfare is required. The successful candidate must hold a valid driver’s licence, and will be required to provide a clear driver’s abstract and supply a Certificate of Conduct as condition of employment.
Salary to be negotiated in line with education and experience, but expected to be in the range of $40-$45,000/yr, with progressive vacation and education development benefits available.
