This is a senior professional planning position in Wheatland County’s Planning and Development Department that requires the individual to demonstrate and draw on expertise acquired from extensive, varied and progressively more responsible professional planning experience.
This position will take a lead role in the development and review of planning strategies, statutory documents, non-statutory documents and a variety of planning applications, policies and projects.
The Senior Planner position reports to the General Manager of Agriculture, Community and Protective Services or in his/her absence to the designate.
Requirements of the position include a range of supervisory, professional and administrative responsibilities that require proficiency working in a municipal government setting.
Qualifications:
A Masters in Planning degree recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP);
Strong experience (4 years or more) in current and long range planning;
Experience in a rural municipal setting is preferred.
Professional Membership:
Membership in, or eligibility for membership in, the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP);
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
Knowledge of the principles of rural, urban and regional planning;
Knowledge of urban design;
Understanding of applicable legislations and regulatory requirements in Alberta;
Knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point);
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects, both independently and as part of a team in a deadline orientated environment;
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality;
Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers Licence.
