We partner with individual citizens, governments, organizations, communities and businesses to find environmental solutions.
You may know us as Clean Nova Scotia, but we work across Atlantic Canada, throughout the traditional lands of the Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik. We are currently seeking a hardworking, dynamic and motivated individual to add to our team who has a strong passion for people and the environment. Our approach is always collaborative and team oriented. In this stimulating role of Senior Manager of Programs you will report to the Executive Director.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the primary purpose of Senior Manager of Programs position is to plan, organize, develop and direct environmental programs through the strategic alignment of regulatory compliance and public policy. The Senior Manager of Programs is responsible for ensuring that the programs meet or surpass targets, maintain a high level of client satisfaction and that delivery of the programs and its activities are in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization. This position is a key member of the Management team of the organization
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Plan the delivery of programs and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization;
Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization;
Develop annual budgets and operating plans to support the programs and ensure that the programs operate within the approved budget;
Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the programs and to identify areas for improvement;
Communicate with funders as outlined in funding agreements;
Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks;
Monitor the program activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework;
Report evaluation findings to the Executive Director and recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate;
Grow sustainable revenues from existing programs and funders through targeted program development opportunities;
Build on project and program opportunities;
Ensure appropriate training and coaching of the staff. Demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to gain optimal levels of performance and commitment;
Ensure employee Performance Management aligns with the organizations objectives and competency expectations;
Perform other job-related duties as assigned and in support of the organization.
Position Requirements/Qualifications:
Completion of post-secondary education in Public Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Science or a related field;
Minimum of five (5) years management experience;
Minimum of five (5) years of related program management experience, including program development, project management, and managing teams of people;
Ability to monitor/reconcile complex project budgets with multiple fund sources;
Effective verbal/written communication skills; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships both internally and with outside agencies and private firms;
Strong computer skills; Outlook, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
Experience in managing, coaching and mentoring staff;
Experience working with various stakeholders in a not-for-profit environment;
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada;
Valid Canadian driver’s license;
Must demonstrate a passion for the environment;
Must be able to complete and pass a criminal background check;
Must be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract from the Registry of Motor Vehicle;
Experience working in a not-for-profit environment is considered an asset;
Valid First Aid and WHIMIS would be considered an asset;
Completion of post-secondary education Masters of Business Administration, Public Administration or Community Development would be considered an asset.
