Senior Manager, Climate Action & Environment – District of West Vancouver –

Key accountabilities include:
Leads and oversees diverse projects involving a wide variety of interests and public engagement to protect the natural environment, reduce the District’s impact on the environment and adapt to climate change.
Maintains a high profile, public relations/advocacy function in the community and regionally, demonstrating a commitment to District values and Council priorities.
Liaises and collaborates effectively with District staff, government agencies, advisory bodies, and community interest groups to advance climate action and environmental initiatives.
Represents the District on internal and external committees, advisory bodies and working and stakeholder groups.
Leads the development of a reporting framework to reduce community and District energy use and carbon emissions; leads the development of metrics, modelling and long-term projections in accordance with IPCC targets.
Provides input on the development and implementation of environmental plans to meet the District’s Strategic Plan objectives.
Works with District staff to integrate the natural capital assets inventory into the District’s regular management, budgeting and decision-making processes.
Advances environmental initiatives to reduce community and corporate waste.
Develops and delivers effective presentations to Council, the community and other stakeholders.
Updates District staff and the public about environmental legislation and trends.
The preferred candidate will possess a Degree in Environmental Management, Climate Change or Environmental Policy, Business Administration or related field (preferably Masters level). They will have considerable experience leading multi-departmental initiatives and creating corporate environmental adaptation or business policy or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of the regulatory requirements other objectives governing the work, including current literature, trends, and issues is required, as is the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, with strengths in persuasive writing and presentations.
The successful candidate is required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials. A BC Driver’s License is required. All District employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of hire.
