2. Position Summary
Safety
The employee in this role will manage the company’s health and safety program. This involves identifying hazards, assessing risks, putting appropriate safety controls in place, and providing direction for the implementation of accident prevention strategies to management. Also sound management of the company’s Worker’s Compensation portfolio is essential as well.
The employee in this role will also be responsible for providing training support in a number of areas including the Safety Orientation of new employees, the Wellness of existing employees and other safety related safety certifications, compliance and employee training.
3. Essential Job Functions Summary
Promote health and safety within the organization, and develop safer and healthier ways of working.
Develop, maintain and track Safety Budget
Maintain & Develop Safety Polices & Procedures, JSAs, PDAs, Lockout Tagout Procedures, etc.
Ensure that personal protective equipment, such as dust masks, safety glasses, footwear and earplugs are being used in workplaces according to regulations, ensure that MSDS sheets for dangerous chemicals are readily available
Conduct regular signage audits to ensure current signage is up-to-date and if not replaced when necessary
Ensure that the organization is aware of and complies with all legislative requirements regarding OHS.
Supervise the investigation of incidents/accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible cause, and recommend remedial action.
Keep records and statics on all accidents and incidents – compile monthly KPIs
Manager monthly JHSC meetings, inspections, functions etc.
Manage all incentive programs i.e. – Safety Bingo, Annual Safety Bonus etc.
Conduct training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on various health and safety topics.
Administer powered mobile equipment program – all operators need to be trained and licensed in the use of lift trucks, power walkies and our scissor lift.
Fall Protection and Confined Space Programs
Enforce and maintain Hearing protection strategy
Administer First Aid Provider Program – all supervisors and JHSC members need annual First Aid Training
Ensure all First Aid Kits and Eye Wash stations are regularly replenished
Ensure all annual inspections are completed for Fire Extinguishers, Hoists & Chain falls, Sprinkler Systems (Main factory and PW)
Manage Return to Work Program – assist with the rehabilitation of workers after accidents or injuries, and ensure satisfactory return to work.
Manage all Workers Comp Costs and Cases
Coordinate Emergency Evacuation Procedures, Drills etc.
Maintain various contingency plans for Business Continuity & Pandemic
Communicate frequently with management to report on the status of health and safety initiatives.
Work closely with Work Safe NB – both OHS side and Workers Comp side
Must be familiar with all audit requirements for Safety & Security – SQF, NESTLE etc.
Maintain our C-TPAT program – ensuring our compliance with US Department of Homeland Security
Visitor and Contractor Safety and Security – Visitor Badges, Key lists etc.
Maintain our Security Camera System
Create, implement and maintain training programs and compliance matrix
Coach supervisors
Advise and interpret legislation Health & Safety
Head up Wellness initiatives oversee Advisory Committee
Must be familiar with and enforce SQF & other audit requirements
Qualifications
Post-Secondary education.
Experience in the Health & Safety field, particularly in an industrial environment
Held positions that require strong leadership and decision making skills
CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation or equivalent would be an asset
Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
