Job Description:

Clearwater County, Town of Rocky Mountain House and the Village of Caroline, are seeking a Regional Fire Chief. The Fire Chief is an employee of Clearwater County and responsible for the management, planning, budget and supervision of the Regional Fire Service, which includes staff and volunteers associated with headquarters and five district stations. The Regional Fire Chief must be willing to live in Clearwater County or the Town of Rocky Mountain House or the Village of Caroline. This position works 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities:
Long range planning and daily operation and administration of the staff and volunteer fire departments
Working collaboratively with the Town of Rocky Mountain House, the Village of Caroline, relevant community groups, associations, and internally with the management and staff of Clearwater County
Oversees and manages all aspects of the fire operations, including fire prevention, fire suppression, and rescue activities as authorized, and as per appropriate legislation, by-laws, policies and standard operating practices, and ensures fire stations have operational guidelines
Manages administrative requirements and systems to meet operational and legal requirements
Determines the effective recruitment, training, assignment, discipline and orientation of staff and volunteers
Complies with occupational health and safety requirements
Manages the annual budget
Qualifications:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, Diploma or Degree in Emergency Service Administration [preferred]
NFPA credentials in support of Senior Officer level
Alberta Safety Codes Officer Level 1 Inspector and Level 1 Investigator
ICS 300 completed, ICS 400 [preferred]
Minimum 5 years in a Fire Officer position in a municipal environment; 5 – 10 years progressive supervisory and leadership positions in a municipal fire department [preferred]
Clean Drivers’ Abstract [Class 3 with Air Brake preferred]
Clean Criminal Record check including Vulnerable Sector
Possess physical and mental agility and stamina to perform all functions required
Member in good standing with a fire service organization [e.g. FIAA, AFCA]
Demonstrated leadership and team building skills
Management skills in strategic planning, organization, interpersonal, analytic and problem-solving, conflict resolution
Excellent level communication skills: verbal, listening, presentation and written
