Recreation Program Coordinator – St Croix International Waterway Commission – St. Croix NB

Are you passionate about the outdoors, and in particular the St. Croix? Are you an organized person who is excellent at balancing priorities and tasks? Do you work well with people and have experience in managing teams? Tired of sitting in an office, wishing you could be out on the water?

The St. Croix International Waterway Commission is an international non-profit organization that manages recreation facilities on the St. Croix waterway corridor, on behalf of the State of Maine and the Province of New Brunswick. We are seeking a Program Coordinator to help run and revolutionize this program, which is one of the premier canoeing destinations in North America.

Essential Skills

Communication. You must be a fantastic communicator, with experience in working with the public and in-house communication. You’ll be working with private companies, law enforcement agencies, government employees, and your fellow staff members across distances and in remote areas – communication skills are a must.
Management. You’ll be responsible for coordinating daily activities, staff schedules, responding to needs as they arise, ensuring sufficient materials and supplies are in place. You’ll need to be skilled at handling staff issues in a fair and inclusive manner, in accordance with our staff policies. You’ll also be getting quotes from contractors, working with a budget, and ensuring all proper reports are made to the Executive Director in a timely manner.
Flexibility, problem-solving, and innovation. We need someone who knows how adapt to changes as they come, and to be able to quickly assess a problem and come up with a solution.
You must have both a valid passport and a valid driver’s licence with a clear record. You will need to be able to pass freely to and from the US, and have the ability to work legally in Canada.
Computer skills. You will need to know your way around Microsoft Office and Gmail. If you have additional skills, particularly with web-based products such as Xero, Checkfront, or other online booking software, that’s a bonus.
People skills. Negotiating, facilitating, mediating, educating – this is a job where you can use all these skills.
Outdoor savvy and physically fit. We travel in canoes and outboards, in pickup trucks with trailers, in all kinds of weather. You’ll be paddling, lifting, and moving, which will require you to be in good physical condition.
Standard First Aid (as a minimum)
Canoeing and/or boating credentials (Pleasure Craft Operators Licence)
Knowledge of the St. Croix River and its headwaters.
Basic carpentry skills
Chainsaw certificate
Diploma or degree in recreation management or outdoor pursuits
Experience in handling reservations
Experience in campground management
Experience working in remote conditions
