The Katlodeeche First Nation is seeking qualified applicants to fill the role of Recreation Director in one of the NWT leading rural communities.
The Recreation Director is responsible for all aspects of band recreation, culture, youth, hunting, water and various other indoor and outdoor pursuits. All activities for the Katlodeeche Band will be organized through the Recreation Director, under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer. All operations will be in accordance with the objectives, policies and plans approved by the Chief and Council. The successful candidate is responsible for directing, controlling and coordinating the activities of the various recreation, cultural, youth, and adult programs. Working together with team members comprised ofstaff and volunteers, the Recreation Director ensures that the policies and programs of the Band are implemented and advises and informs the CEO of the program operations and cultural affairs of the Band. The Director performs all the budget, proposal submissions and duties in the job description and assigned by the CEO.
The Recreation Director position is accountable for all recreation, youth, sport programming and services to meet the needs of the community. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a clear pattern of ongoing recreation development for the Band. A satisfactory criminal check will be required.
Education:
Post-secondary education in Recreation, Public Administration, Management,Finance or a related field is required. A related professional designation is desired.
Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess a career track record of progressively more senior positions and a combination of the following management experience, preferably in a dynamic, growing rural Band government setting.
Successful experience as a Rec. Director or Assistant Rec. Director
Experience in a multi-dimensional organization
ability to provide focus and leadership and to adapt and integrate planning and program initiatives
A positive record of working effectively with elected community officials, community volunteers, boards, and committees, and public participation processes
Proven experience in strategic planning, organizational development, achieving results in building teams with staff and volunteers
Experience or significance exposure developing and implementing plans, training and upgrading programs as needed, and training to improve the value of the various
