Recreation Coordinator (2 year term with possibility for an extension)

The picturesque community of Fort Providence, a predominantly aboriginal community of 800 people located on the Mackenzie River, approximately 300 kilometres southwest of Yellowknife is seeking a motivated individual with a strong recreational background who is interested in community recreation development and recreational activities. Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO), the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of recreation, leisure and sport programs/activities. The successful candidate must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:
Develop recreational and sport programs/activities for all community members while working with stakeholders
Implement programs such that residents have access to sport, recreation and leisure activities
Administer programs within certain guidelines and budgets
Promote community awareness of available recreation and sport programs
Responsible for the Planning, Organization and Implementation of community wide special events
Responsible for overseeing of Hamlet owned facilities (Swimming Pool, Arena, Community Hall, Fitness Centre)
Working with youth of all ages

The applicant must have proficient knowledge/skills in the following areas:
Recreation program administration, management, evaluation and delivery
Event coordination, planning abilities and team leadership abilities
Excellent organizational/interpersonal/communication skills (Oral and Written)
Computer skills and knowledge

Qualifications:
Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Recreation Management, Outdoor Education, Physical Education, Sports Administration or in a related field
Class 5 NWT Drivers License or Provincial Equivalent (Willing to obtain an NWT Class 4)
Extensive recreational background
Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
Police Criminal Record Check
Vulnerable Sector Screening
Must be willing to travel with groups of youth and be physically able to lead recreational activities
Experience working with youth is considered an asset
