The Town of Lake Cowichan has an opening for a qualified individual for the position of Public Works Foreman. Lake Cowichan is a vibrant and growing community that is strategically located at the eastern end of Cowichan Lake, headwaters of the world famous Cowichan River (now designated a heritage river). The town, with its close proximity to Duncan, Victoria and Nanaimo, is the gateway to some of the most spectacular camping, hiking, and fishing venues available on Vancouver Island. It also boasts a temperate climate, which is ideal for outdoor activities year round.
The position of Public Works Foreman will be under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Public Works and Engineering Services and will be responsible for a variety of duties including the supervising and overseeing of aspects of the operations and maintenance of the Public Works and Parks Department, including roads, water, storm and sanitary sewers, solid waste collection and fleet management. The position is responsible for ensuring an efficient and safe work environment.
The ideal candidate must have preferably 10 years of experience in municipal works with a minimum of 5 years of experience in crew supervision, including planning, organizing and supervising the public works crew daily operations, interpreting construction drawings, preparing costs estimates and effectively maintaining operational and financial records. A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and previous experience as a Foreman in a municipality would be assets. Candidates must hold and maintain EOCP certifications in wastewater treatment, water distribution and water treatment.
The position of Public Works Foreman is included in the Town of Lake Cowichan and United Steelworkers, Local 1-1937 Master Agreement. Wages will start at $32.9896 per hour.
