Public Relations Manager – Vanguard – Toronto, ON

Vanguard, one of the world’s largest investment management companies seeks a Public Relations Manager to develop, manage, and implement the Public Relations strategy for Canada.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Develops and implements the Canadian PR plan in line with the business and marketing strategy.
Acts as the press representative for Vanguard, including handling press calls, providing clear information to media and building/maintaining relationships with news media.
Plans and proactively researches story ideas to proactively pitch to media representatives and places stories in target media.
Writes press releases and other content (e.g., statements, by-line articles, Q&As, press kits, bylines, factsheets, speeches, etc).
Develops a clear messaging framework and ensures that messages are consistently communicated across the region.
Works with the Group PR team to understand corporate strategy, priorities and positioning and aligns local and corporate messaging.
Develops and maintains strong collaborative relationships with internal resources.
Counsels management on public perception issues.
Arranges interviews with executives and portfolio managers and other experts, and fully prepares them for press engagements.
Manages any external PR agency relationships.
Keeps abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes and develops appropriate materials in response.
Manages crisis communications for Canada and aligns approach with the Vanguard Group.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should possess:

Undergraduate degree in journalism, communication or PR, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree in communications or business preferred.
Knowledge of the Canadian asset management and financial services industry, including adviser and institutional markets with a strong understanding of the financial markets and investing concepts.
7-10 years of PR experience in the asset management or related industry.
Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively and independently on multiple projects.
Demonstrated ability to explain complex subject matter in plain English.
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency in a second language (French) preferred.
