The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is currently looking for a Project Officer to support its Knowledge for Integrated Decisions’ Program. This full time position will be based at IISD’s head office in Winnipeg, Canada. The Project Officer will report to the Director of the Knowledge for Integrated Decisions’ Program.
IISD’s Knowledge for Integrated Decisions’ Program
The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) has a growing portfolio of work in the field of data assessment and trend analyses across sectors to measure aspects of sustainable development in a policy-relevant manner. IISD’s Knowledge for Integrated Decisions’ Program aims to equip national and local governments, communities and businesses with tools and approaches to navigate complexity by helping them to integrate indicators of genuine progress and the understanding of future risks and opportunities into decision-making processes, and transparent reporting and accountability to meet global and national commitments.
Position Description
IISD’s Knowledge for Integrated Decisions’ program is focussing on areas such as indicators design and, reporting, foresight and adaptive policy-making, in Canada and internationally. These include, but are not limited to community indicators and measuring well-being, environmental and integrated impacts assessments, and multilateral environmental agreements. The Project Officer shall contribute to the work on community and socio-economic indicators and integrated assessment, data processing and analyses, and communications associated with projects undertaken within the Program.
Duties
Under the direction of the Director, Knowledge for Integrated Decisions’ Program, or their Designate, the Project Officer will:
Coordinate the collection of data and entry to the community indicator system for the city of Winnipeg.
Conduct indicator design, analyses and reporting using community and socio-economic indicators including through collaborative and consultative processes.
Conduct other research on integrated (and environmental) impact assessments on specific sectors using available data and materials from global databases.
Support the management and implementation of other initiatives within the Program as required, including but not limited to:
Assisting with collaborative planning and management;
Attending and contributing to meetings;
Assisting in meeting/workshop facilitation;
Maintaining contact with key partners and information sources;
Working with partner organizations.
Assist with the maintenance of IISD’s institutional presence in Winnipeg, including the maintenance of relationships within the government, non-governmental and private sectors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The Project Officer should possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor or Master’s degree in a sustainability studies related field.
Experience in working with community/socio-economic indicators (e.g. trend analyses, database development, reporting).
Strong data management and data analysis skills using Excel.
Basic understanding of integrated and environmental impact assessments.
Fluency in Spanish.
Strong communications and outreach skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
