Summary
Green Economy Kingston (GEK) is Sustainable Kingston’s new target-based sustainability program for businesses. Participating member organizations are plugged-in to a local network, supported in setting a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target and celebrated for progress made towards economic and environmental results.
Overview of the position
The Green Economy Kingston Program Manager leads GEK members towards setting & achieving ambitious & realistic GHG reduction commitments, with a focus on carbon reporting, providing support services, and member recognition. As the GEK carbon & sustainability subject lead, The GEK Program manager works closely with GEK members to foster their GHG reducing efforts, moving GEK members through the key milestones of the GEK.
Duties and responsibilities
Carbon Reporting
Ensures GEK members are able to easily & comprehensively report their carbon impact to Sustainable Kingston by:
Overseeing the provision of sufficient support for members to report
Training and empowering GEK member staff to properly report, account, quality check, and track their GHG emissions
Provides additional quality checking of GHG data on an ongoing basis
Ensures GEK member data (both carbon and project-based) is properly secured, and adheres to confidentially specified with GEK members
Is an ad-hoc resource for GEK members on all matters relating to carbon accounting, reporting and tracking
Research leadership
Oversees ongoing delivery of climate change & related research to the Sustainable Kingston team, Board and GEK members
Makes recommendations on how ongoing changes to the external environment affect the GEK & GEK members
Responsible for the oversight, maintenance and transparent communication on the GEK Reduction Framework and associated GHG accounting methodologies
Maintains an ongoing understanding of GEK members’ barriers to sustainability/GHG reductions, and recommends changes to the GEK based on these
GHG reduction support services (tools, resources & 1:1 support)
Manages and develops tools to support GEK member sustainability initiatives (i.e. GHG Services Directory, Energy Action Plan Toolkit)
Manages ongoing projects and incentives for GEK members to reduce GHG emissions (funds, grants for members, etc.)
Manages organization-led interfacing, projects and connections between local sustainability experts/consultants and GEK members
Collects and shares GEK member sustainability/GHG reduction best practices, via: resources (with a focus on green teams and sustainability initiatives); MemberLink, including leading and responding to member conversations, as well as third-party resources housed there
Oversees member engagement related to the volunteer Member – Support Coordinator program, including two-way information flow between GEK members and Member Support Coordinators, Member Support Coordinator’s coaching, and is the organization’s go-to Member Support Coordinator as required
Works with Observing Organizations in the process of converting to a Pledging Partner

Oversees the creation of the organization’s year-end reports, with a focus on GEK member content
Oversees the organization’s support and communication of GEK members’ projects and membership, both internal and external to the member
With support from marketing and public relations functional areas, ensures the organization recognizes GEK members in local media, online and in the community at large
Technical leadership
Responsible for external communications regarding carbon accounting, carbon policy, reduction opportunities, and all similar “technical” matters; mediums could include social media (Facebook & Twitter), media interviews as well as Sustainable Kingston-pitched media stories & letters
Supports GEK technical input as required for the organization’s policy engagement efforts
Strategic Planning

Requirements
Qualifications & experience
University degree / Diploma in related field or equivalent experience (minimum 2 years) in a professional environment
Experience with project management in the not-for-profit sector, including managing budgets and volunteers
Experience applying and reporting to diverse funders
Passion for and experience in building & maintaining relationships across multiple sectors
Passion for environmental issues, for community-based leadership, and for improving the environmental sustainability of Kingston
Knowledge & skills
Knowledge of GHG accounting standards and protocols
Knowledge of current government policy and current issues surrounding GHG policy development
Demonstrated leadership ability
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to multi-task and to take on multiple projects at one time
Ability to demonstrate initiative and a strong ability to start projects and see them through to completion.
