Program Manager, Special Projects – The Starfish Environmental Society – Victoria, BC

About the role
The Starfish is seeking a program manager to lead a key Victoria-based project, ensuring effective program planning and engaging delivery, with the ultimate goal of building a youth cohort that nurtures placemaking and local leadership. The Program Manager, Special Projects will be supported by other managers and our Director of Education to ensure the project is developed and delivered with an equity lens and language accessibility to ensure the project is inclusive of a diverse cohort of youth participants.

Key responsibilities will include:
Planning and implementing all aspects of of key special project deliverables, in consultation with the Director, Education
Creating workshop content and materials
Recruiting, training and supervising project facilitators
Developing resources and training materials to onboard project facilitators
Completing administrative tasks, community outreach, and event planning for the project
Leading the development of participant application procedure and oversee the participant selection process
Maintaining relationship with project partners, activating them to engage in the project as needed, and ensure partnership requirements are met
The Manager, Special Projects reports to the Director of Education and will be supported through weekly check-ins and consistent communication. They will receive guidance on project planning and program management, and any additional framing and information that may support the team. As requested, mentorship and coaching opportunities can be made available.

Ability to take initiative, assessing project needs, priorities, and determining an approach to execute program delivery
Analytical and critical thinking skills, an ability to identify efficiencies and redundancies
Keen attention to detail to ensure high quality deliverables
Excellent communication skills with participants, facilitators, partners, and community members both virtually and in-person
Strong ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Able to take leadership in this role and collaborate and connect with team members virtually as they work from home
Must be able to communicate in English (proficiency in French and other languages is an additional asset)
Due to requirements of the funding for this role, to be eligible for this position, applicants must fit all of the following criteria:
Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations,
Be 15 to 30 years of age
