Duties and Responsibilities
In this role you will be coordinating the execution of an 18–24-month strategy that builds on our existing efforts. You will increase engagement to ensure an inclusive and fair labour transition to the low carbon economy by expanding relationships among the workers and communities that rely on carbon-intensive industries for their employment, and elected officials and government decision-makers who are designing Canada’s industrial decarbonization efforts. This includes
Developing and implementing campaign strategies that will lead to a win
Participation as BGC’s representative in government consultations, House of Commons and Senate hosted standing committees
Building positive relationships with stakeholders, government officials, labour, and other ENGOs
Convening, in person, virtually or both, events that engage workers and their representatives in dialogues on what is needed to ensure that industrial decarbonization plans work for workers.
Promoting and supporting the values of the organization

Skills and Experience
5+ years experience in advocacy or public policy work with a preference for experience in advancing and achieving change and a proven ability to build relationships
Knowledge of Canadian legislative and regulatory frameworks
Solid understanding of project management principles (developing work plans, managing budgets, identifying and managing risks, etc.)
Ability to set priorities, complete work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines
Ability to think critically and make well-informed, timely decisions
Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate ideas and actions to people at all levels in an organization
Strong background in environmental issues is an asset
Location
This role will be based in Ottawa, however we anticipate that the position will be virtual until spring 2022; with office arrangements to be determined with the successful applicant, once public health measures allow.
