Pound Inspector – District of Saanich

The Saanich Police Department is seeking a Pound Inspector who will be responsible for investigating, reporting and resolving violations and the collection of fees for municipal bylaws, including, but not limited to: the Animals Bylaw and the Noise Suppression Bylaw.

Please note that this is an Auxiliary On-Call position and all applicants are expected to be available as required throughout the year. The current budget permits approximately eighteen (18) weeks of on-call work throughout the year and under normal circumstances, an Auxiliary On-Call Pound Inspector may be required to work several days per month or up to a week at a time during the fall, winter and spring. Additionally, an Auxiliary On-Call Pound Inspector may be required to work several weeks at a time or up to a month at a time during the summer. As a result, the applicant must be completely flexible and available as required.

Requirements include: completion of Grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary courses in a related field such as the B.C. Justice Institute Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Program Level 1, or an equivalent combination of training and experience; minimum of 6 months related experience, including experience with bylaw and court procedures; take and adhere to Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office; ability to obtain completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course or valid firearms licence; yearly qualification with a firearm and use of capstun/ASP; acceptable under requirements for appointment to Special Municipal Constable; possession of a current and valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s licence; sufficient health, physical conditioning, strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of work in all types of weather and circumstances; typing speed of 40 wpm and must pass/maintain the Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance, including successful completion of the polygraph exam.

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $33.34 per hour plus 13% in lieu of benefits. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
