The Regional District of Nanaimo has an employment opportunity for a Planner in the Strategic and Community Development Department. Reporting to the Manager of Long-Range Planning, the Planner will be responsible for analyzing, assessing, formulating and coordinating official community plan and regional growth strategy policies; preparing written reports on a variety of planning matters including policy formation and plan implementation; coordinating all phases of departmental planning projects including work with planning consultants; communicating with the public, other staff, interest groups and Board members concerning planning projects and assisting in the development of bylaws, policy and planning studies. There will be a focus on Long-Range Planning; however, Current Planning work will be assigned as and when required. The focus of the work may shift from Long-Range to Current Planning, based on the operational needs of the department.
Qualifications for this position include an Undergraduate Degree in Planning or a related field plus six (6) years of professional planning experience, or a Masters Degree in Planning with three (3) years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful applicant will possess strong interpersonal, report writing and conflict resolution skills; be comfortable speaking at public events; and be proficient at word processing and other basic computer applications.
This is a permanent full time Union position (35 hours per week). The rate of pay is $38.22 to $40.23 per hour. The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the Collective Agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
