POSITION OVERVIEW:
This is a full-time seasonal job, running from April through to end of October.
The Challenge Course Manager’s (CCM) primary responsibility is to ensure that all participants using the challenge course elements have a safe and rewarding learning experience. This is a senior management position that includes a wide range of tasks and responsibilities, as outlined below. Qualities that are critical in the CCM include good judgment, flexibility, patience, and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time. Will be able to supervise all aspects of the Challenge Course including developing policies and procedures. The CCM often works independently, but must also be comfortable leading groups as well as working closely with others on projects such as facilitator and counselor training programs.
On a day-to-day basis, the CCM performs a wide variety of tasks, including risk management, low and high ropes maintenance, construction, and reconstruction, trail maintenance, removal of trees and dead limbs, responding to high course rescues or medical emergencies, interviewing potential staff, preparing and conducting training programs for new staff, assisting other staff as needed, and administrative tasks such as recordkeeping, budget preparation/monitoring, participation in regular team meetings, email correspondence, etc.
Seasonal and yearly events include inspecting the 20+ element challenge course three times a year, conducting a 5-day training program once a year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School diploma required; college degree preferred.
Professional Experience: At least three seasons working at a ropes course or a comparable facility, including at least 3 seasons as a group facilitator.
Additional Skills: strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Certifications: ACCT Level II or CCM certification is preferred.
Salary: contingent on education and experience level.
